Desptie a 2-1 loss to Real Madrid in Saturday’s Clasico – and a shaky start to the season – Barcelona will permit head coach Ronald Koeman three more games to save his job.
Barcelona’s defeat against Los Blancos was the latest low of Koeman’s tenure. The ex-Blaugrana player has endured a difficult time at the club and is seeing more and more fans turn against him with each reverse. The latest one resulted in an angry mob surrounding his car as he attempted to exit the Camp Nou complex following the game.
When asked about the confrontation, the Dutchman claimed it to be a social problem:
“For me, it’s a social problem, they are people who have an education problem, they don’t know what morals and values are.
I was not afraid, there was a moment when I said ‘I’m going to get out’, but better that I didn’t. I understand people are not happy, but you don’t expect that.”
he said on Tuesday in his pre-game press conference.
However, despite faltering results and fragmenting relationships with the fanbase, Koeman is expected to take charge of Barcelona’s next three games. While the manager’s immediate future as Barcelona manager is secure, the club will be forced to take action if the team drops points against “weaker opposition”, reports Marca.
The Catalans play an in-form Rayo Vallecano midweek before facing Deportivo Alaves on the weekend. They then go up against Dynamo Kyiv in the UEFA Champions League matchday 4.
