AS understands that the club has promised La Liga that the necessary reductions in their wage bills would be made before the start of the next season, and the governing body is said to favour letting them register the signing of their most successful player.
Messi’s future has been under the scanner for the past year ever since he made a shock transfer request to Barcelona days after Barcelona suffered a humiliating 8-2 defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich.
The 34-year-old, however, was not allowed to leave and was consequently forced to stay in the club. In 2021 however, Messi hit top form again and was instrumental in guiding Barcelona to a Copa Del Rey victory in a season where it was expected that the former La Liga champions would go trophyless.
Club president Joan Laporta has promised that there would be a few more signings made this summer, but it will be interesting to see if the Blaugrana can overcome their tricky financial situation.
As it stands, Antoine Greizmann and Sergi Roberto have been linked with a move away from the club. Barcelona have already offloaded Carles Alenya, Junior Firpo, Juan Miranda, Matheus Fernandes, Jean Clair Todibo, and Trinca, who is currently on loan at Wolverhampton.
