Eighteen new players in, but newly-promoted Nottingham Forest are showing no signs of slowing down. According to Fabrizio Romano, Forest have struck an agreement with Spanish giants Atletico Madrid to take left-back Renan Lodi on loan for the 2022/23 season with the option to turn his stay permanent at the end of the campaign – should they deem it desirable.
The Premier League outfit will pay a 5 million euro loan fee to the Rojiblancos to complete the deal for the time being, with 30 million more kept in reserve, if it wishes to sign the Brazilian full-back on a permanent basis the season after.
The 24-year-old joined Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2019 from local Brazilian giants Atletico Paranaense. The youngster made 43 appearances in his first season in Europe and scored one goal; he added 75 more appearances to his tally in the next two seasons and scored five more, including four in the 2021/22 campaign.
He will become Nottingham Forest’s 19th signing of the season – and they aren’t done yet. As per reports, Forest have a deal in place to sign free agent Serge Aurier as a backup right-back option following the Ivorian’s release from Villarreal.
Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid, as per reports, will look to the Premier League to sign a replacement. Romano confirms that the Rojiblancos are interested in taking Tottenham Hotspur’s Sergio Reguilon for the season and the two clubs are discussing a dry loan – one without the option or the obligation to buy the player outright.
Reguilon joined Spurs in 2020 from boyhood club Real Madrid, but, after a promising start to life at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, lost his place in the squad under the current manager Antonio Conte. He could become Atletico’s fourth signing of the season after Axel Witsel, Samuel Lino, and Nahuel Molina.
