Barcelona star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was full of praise for his teammates following their 3-2 win over Levante in LaLiga on Sunday night. The Gabon international specifically pointed toward Ousmane Dembele, claiming that the pair have formed a good professional relationship between them.
He also stated that the Frenchman – whom he also shared a dressing room with while at Borussia Dortmund – has to stay and renew his contract with Barcelona. As things presently stand, the 24-year-old will depart as a free agent at the end of the season.
Dembele provided the cross for Aubameyang’s equalizing goal on Sunday night, which the Gabonese forward headed past goalkeeper Dani Cardenas just prior to the hour mark of a 3-2 win.
“When Pedri and Gavi came on they did really well. We have confidence in the whole group but when they came on and scored it made us really happy because it was a very difficult game.
Ousmane knows me well. I have to always be prepared when he goes to the right. It’s normal for people to be aware of me.
I can do much more. In the first half, I didn’t play well. We have to show a little more intensity. I think today we lowered the intensity, especially in the first half. We improved in the second half. But, Dembele has to stay!”
the former Arsenal striker said, as per Marca.
Despite his recent resurgence, Dembele’s future remains up in the air as negotiations with his representatives, so far, have been fruitless. Nonetheless, that hasn’t prevented the winger from showing some of his best form in a Barcelona jersey since he arrived from Borussia in a deal worth 140 million euros.
He has provided 11 assists in LaLiga so far, which is a joint-highest tally this season alongside Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema, albeit Dembele has done so in 13 games fewer.
However, his goalscoring stats stand at a disappointing two across all competitions, out of which, only one was scored in the LaLiga.
