Former Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic was one of the most underrated midfielders during his imperious spell at the club, but he moved out in September 2020 to Barcelona in a deal, which saw Arthur Melo join Juventus. The Bosnian, however, found life difficult at Camp Nou and was loaned out to Turkish club Besiktas at the start of this season.
With the winter transfer window just days away from opening, Pjanic’s name is taking rounds in the gossip circles around Italy. He is rumoured to return to Serie A in January, with the likes of Genoa seemingly interested in signing the 31-year-old. There are some outlandish rumours as well, suggesting Bianconeri will try to bring him back as he excelled under Massimiliano Allegri previously.
However, the midfielder has confirmed he will not be leaving the Turkish champions until the end of this season and is enjoying life at the club. He mentioned that he has not played a lot of games only due to the injuries he has suffered, otherwise, he is keen on helping the club retain the Super Lig title.
“I am happy at Besiktas and I want to stay until the end of the season. I haven’t played as much only because I have been injured,”
he assured while speaking to Football Italia.
Having made his name at Metz and Lyon earlier in his career, Pjanic moved to Italy to join AS Roma in 2011. He spent five years at the club and quickly became one of the most impactful players in the league, warranting him a 32 million euro transfer to the record-Italian champions.
Pjanic, who scored on his debut for the club, had a stellar impact as the season progressed, playing in a deep-lying role, and was a whisker away from winning Juve’ second-ever treble. They lost in the 2016/17 Champions League final to Real Madrid (4-1), but he made his mark instantly.
He soon became their set-piece expert, being the first name to head towards corners, freekicks and penalties. He scored 22 times in 178 appearances for the club before a controversial swap deal with Barcelona saw him move out of Italy after nine spectacular years. The midfielder hasn’t scored in a professional game since leaving Juventus.
