Just a few months after Christian Eriksen collapsed on the pitch due to a cardiac arrest, Sergio Aguero had a near scare during Barcelona’s league fixture against Alaves at Camp Nou. The Argentine forward complained of having chest discomfort, having made his league debut against Valencia a little while ago.
Messages of support and love poured in from all corners for the 33-year-old, wishing him a speedy recovery. His former club Manchester City wished him well, as he was replaced by Philippe Coutinho in the playing XI.
The Argentine Aguero moved from City to Barca on a free transfer shortly after the Citizens’ Champions League final defeat to Chelsea. His debut took its time to hit the screen as he was nursing some injuries, and he finally made it to the playing field on the same day as Ansu Fati got his first start post-recovery, in a 3-1 win against Valencia.
After another three sub appearances, which included a late consolation in a 2-1 loss to Real Madrid, he got his first against Rayo Vallecano. In what was just his second start for his new club against Alaves, the forward was initially spotted struggling to walk on the touchline and was almost immediately taken away to the hospital.
It was reported today that he had an irregular pulse, which caused discomfort. His absence was felt in the Blaugrana frontline on a day where they struggled to get a finishing touch to a lot of good moves. Memphis Depay scored a stunning opener, who cut inside from the left and curled it home past the keeper’s left.
Unfortunately for the Catalan giants, Luis Rioja made a stunning solo run into the Barca box, and a defensive howler from Gerard Pique helped them equalize. The game finished 1-1, and it was the first in charge for the interim manager Sergi Barjuan.
Barcelona are currently considering appointing another club legend, Xavi Hernandez. The Spaniard is currently the manager of Qatari club Al-Sadd, and it’ll take a hefty price for Barcelona to lure their former midfielder back to Catalonia. They will be in action next against Dynamo Kyiv in the Champions League (November 2).
