Barcelona really like the idea of bringing back Leipzig’s attacking midfielder Dani Olmo to Camp Nou, as per Mundo Deportivo. The Blaugrana have solved their financial issues to an extent, though there is still a lot of work to be done.
With the departures of Lionel Messi (PSG), Antoine Griezmann (Atletico, loan), and Emerson Royal (Tottenham), the Catalans have not only increased their transfer budget for the subsequent transfer windows to come but have also managed to lighten up their wage bill.
Having said that, Barca tried to sign Dani Olmo in the deadline day of the summer window, but RB Leipzig’s asking price of €75 million proved to be a stumbling block for the Spanish giants.
It is understood that Mateu Alemany, the Director of Football of Barcelona, is keen on bringing the 23-year-old back to his roots. Olmo is also said to be in favor of a move back to Barcelona.
Barcelona’s academy graduate Olmo left the club in 2014 for Dinamo Zagreb. In January 2020, RB Leipzig have signed the attacking midfielder for a fee of €22 million.
The idea at Camp Nou is to bring back Olmo back to Barcelona as soon as possible. It potentially means that Barca will enter into negotiations with the Bundesliga club in the winter window over a possible deal involving Olmo.
It was Barcelona’s deadline day pursuit of Olmo that pushed RB Leipzig to place a €75 million price tag on the midfielder. It was only natural as the German club did not have a replacement in place for him. Barcelona were said to have presented an initial offer of €55 million, which was shot down by RB Leipzig.
Now that the transfer window will gradually calm down, Leipzig are expected to lower their asking fee for Olmo as they are aware of the player’s desire to return to Camp Nou. Only Barcelona’s negotiations with Leipzig will allow them to seal the deal at a comfortable price.
