Newcastle United are looking into a potential deal that could bring Juventus centre-forward Dusan Vlahovic to the club during the summer transfer window if reports by Football Italia are to be believed.
The 23-year-old has apparently been identified as a priority transfer target for Eddie Howe after his representatives floated the prospect of a move to England before a host of Premier League clubs. The former ACF Fiorentina man only joined the Old Lady in the winter transfer window of the 2021/22 season but is open to making a move after 59 appearances for the side.
Vlahovic was signed by Juventus in a massive 75 million deal from Fiorentina amid competition from Premier League sides Arsenal and Liverpool. After blockbuster seasons for his former side in the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons, where he scored a staggering total of 45 goals despite playing for a weaker side, his stocks shot up.
In spite of concrete interest from other leagues, the Serbian forward chose to stay Italy, and signed for Juve. However, since moving, he has not been at his absolute best, struggling to find form at times, and has had issues with his finishing.
While the system at Juventus could be responsible for Vlahovic’s underwhelming performances, Massimilano Allegri has come out firmly in support of his striker on many occasions. Nevertheless, the Serie A giants decided to sign Arkadiusz Milik on loan from Olympique Marseille as a backup to Vlahovic.
The Polish striker, who was part of the Napoli side between 2016 and 2021, has done quite well, scoring nine goals from 15 starts in the Serie A. Although Milik will return to Marseille at the end of the season, Vlahovic is believed to be of the opinion that a move to England would be best for his career.
Quite a few sides are said to have shown interest in the player, the most prominent being the Magpies. Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United, and even Aston Villa are looking into the deal, if reports are accurate.
Nevertheless, Vlahovic will not be short of competition if he decides to move to St. James’ Park, given that Howe already has the likes of Aleksander Isak and Callum Wilson at his disposal.
