Juventus midfielder Filip Kostic was the star of the show as he set up two second-half goals for Adrien Rabiot and Nicolo Fagioli to beat Inter Milan 2-1 at the Allianz Stadium in Turin. Both sides had plenty of chances in the Serie A encounter on Sunday, but the Bianconeri proved to be the more clinical of the two.
It was the visitors Internazionale who were much better in the first half. They created several chances but failed to get their noses ahead. Both sides went into the half-time break with a goalless stalemate.
The first chance of the game fell to Inter striker Lautaro Martinez whose half-volley just went wide of the post. Meanwhile, Juve had their first real attempt at goal after 19 minutes when Gleison Bremer tried a volley from Kostic’s cross, but his effort went wide.
Edin Dzeko was close to putting Inter ahead after 26 minutes with a header from Martinez’s cross, but again the effort went just to the side of the post. Denzel Dumfries had the glorious opportunity to sent the visitors ahead before half-time but ended up miscuing Nicolo Barella’s pass and sent it over the bar from inside the box.
Juventus emerged out of the tunnel in the second half with a stronger desire to pounce on Inter’s missed chances. Kostic took advantage of a cleared Inter corner and darted into the box, where Rabiot guided the assist elegantly into the lower right corner in the 52nd minute.
The hosts could have doubled their advantage just over 10 minutes later. However, Danilo’s goal ended up getting revoked by VAR due to a handball.
Kostic then fed an unmarked Nicolo Fagioli on the other side of the box six minutes before full-time for the second goal that not only sealed the three points for the Old Lady of Turin but also put the visitors out of their misery.
