These are potentially exciting times for Arsenal fans. Despite the team’s sufferings on the pitch, there could be a takeover on the horizon. Spotify owner Daniel Ek has shown interest in buying the club, and Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has confirmed the same.
Arsenal great Thierry Henry has confirmed Daniel Ek’s interest in buying the club. The Frenchman has claimed that Ek is indeed an Arsenal fan who holds serious interest in purchasing the club from the Kroenkes. Furthermore, Henry confirmed that Ek has reached out to the Kroenkes with a title bid and has appealed to the current owners to do the right thing.
“It is true. Daniel is an Arsenal fan, he didn’t say it for any publicity. He is an Arsenal fan for a very long time,”
“He already reached out [to the Kroenkes] and already said himself that he had collected the funds to make sure that he can put in a good bid.
“They now need to listen. A lot of people have been screaming that they want the owner out. We are trying to offer a solution involving the fans and getting the DNA of the club back.”
Henry said on Sky Sports.
It is being reported that Ek has the funds to complete a potential takeover. Furthermore, he also has the backing of club greats such as Henry, Dennis Bergkamp, and Patrick Vieira. Henry confirmed that Ek did indeed approach the trio with the idea of a takeover and that they want fans to be involved in the running of the club.
However, a statement from the Kroenke family recently claimed that the owners weren’t looking to sell the club at the moment. Conversely, reports have since surfaced claiming that the club could indeed be sold, despite the owners stating otherwise.
Stan Kroenke was appointed on the Arsenal board of directors in 2008 after the club approved a takeover bid. His initial share of the club stood at 29.9 per cent, which was increased to 62.89 per cent in 2011. In 2018, he increased his shareholding to above 90 per cent after making a successful bid to Alisher Usmanov.
