Wolverhampton Wanderers have beaten top European clubs to the signing of 23-year-old midfielder Matheus Nunes, the club confirmed on Wednesday night. Nunes becomes Wolves’ record signing, with the club splashing 50 million euros to complete the transfer.
He has signed a five-year contract with the Premier League side, which will run until the end of the 2026/27 season. The central midfielder joins a strong Portuguese contingent in Wolverhampton, the likes of which helped sway his decision.
“Ruben, Moutinho, I spoke to all of them and asked them stuff, and they all said great stuff about the club – Sa as well, so I’m glad to be here.
For sure. I’ve wanted to come here for a long time now. This is the best league in the world for sure and, like I said, it’s the best step for me and I’m ready,”
he said.
Nunes switches to Wolves from Sporting Club, who signed him in the summer of 2019 from Estoril Praia for a basic 500,000 euro fee. He made 101 appearances for the Lisbon side over the next three years and eight for the Portugal national team.
Meanwhile, West Ham have completed the signing of Germany international Thilo Kehrer on a long-term contract from Paris Saint-Germain. The Hammers, in their own words, beat competition from other European heavyweights to tie down Kehrer and paid the Parisians 10 million pounds for the 25-year-old.
“I talked to the manager and he told me about how he sees me fitting in at the club. My biggest goal now is to get into the team, integrate myself within the group and enjoy playing for West Ham,”
said West Ham’s new number 24, Kehrer.
Kehrer joined PSG in 2018 from boyhood club Schalke for 37 million euros. He made 128 appearances for the Parisians over the next four years, never really managing to hold down a first-team spot for long.
