The Reds have officially unveiled their third signing of the summer, midfielder Fabio Carvalho, who has joined the club from Fulham in a 5 million pound transfer.
The Reds came close to signing the midfielder in January, but the move fell through at the eleventh hour. However, they returned with a 5 million bid – rising to 7.7 million after bonuses – before the end of the season that was accepted by the Cottagers. The 2021/22 Premier League runner-ups then waited until Carvalho’s previous contract with Fulham came to an end on June 30 before presenting him to their fans on their official website.
The Portuguese, who scored 10 times and set his teammates up on eight occasions, helping the London side win promotion back to the Premier League, will wear the number 28 during his Liverpool spell.
“It’s just an amazing feeling to be here at one of the biggest clubs in the world, if not the biggest.”
“Once you hear that Liverpool are interested, there’s only one thought in your mind, which is to join them and try to be in and around the team. Hopefully, I can achieve big things.”
the 19-year-old told the Liverpool’s website in his first interview with the club.
Jurgen Klopp also gave his remarks on the midfielder’s talents. However, the German asked for patience in his address, claiming that while the 19-year-old possesses the qualities, he needs time to step up to Liverpool’s level.
“It doesn’t really need saying, but it is worth reminding everyone that he will of course need patience. It’s a step up, but one we know he is more than capable of making, which is why we were so keen for so long to sign him for Liverpool,”
the manager said.
Carvalho becomes Liverpool’s third arrival this summer. The club had previously confirmed the arrivals of forward Darwin Nunez and full-back Calvin Ramsay from SL Benfica and Aberdeen, respectively.
