Tottenham Hotspur have officially added Everton forward Richarlison to their squad ahead of the 2022/23 season, both clubs announced on Friday morning. The Brazil international has joined the club on a long-term contract after four years with the Toffees.
Spurs swept in for the Brazil international quickly, beating interest from rival clubs to secure a deal worth 58 million euros, including add-ons. The 25-year-old has left the Toffees after four years and signed a five-season-long contract with Tottenham, which will run until the end of the 2026/27 campaign.
The forward falls two million short of Tottenham’s most expensive transfer, the record for which is still held by Frenchman Tanguy Ndombele, who joined the club in the summer of 2019 from Lyon for a 60 million fee.
Notably, things didn’t work out for the midfielder in London, however, and he was loaned back to his former club by Spurs for the latter half of the 2021/22 season with the option to buy him outright for 65 million.
Tottenham have been busy in the transfer market so far this summer. The club earlier announced the arrivals of free agents Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster, who joined the club from Inter Milan and Southampton, respectively.
Spurs also paid Brighton 25 million pounds to secure the rights to midfielder Yves Bissouma and remain in talks to sign right Barcelona centre-back Clement Lenglet, albeit on loan.
As such, Richarlison becomes Antonio Conte’s fourth signing. He joins the club’s attacking ranks, where he now stands alongside Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski, Lucas Moura, and Steven Bergwijn. Furthermore, he arrives in London with almost a goal in three games record from Merseyside. The Brazilian scored 53 goals across four seasons and 152 appearances for Everton.
The 25-year-old is also a key member of the Brazil national team. His record of 14 goals in 36 appearances stands out, as does his pedigree of turning up in important games for the Selecao. The player scored in Brazil’s 3-1 win over Peru in the 2019 Copa America Final and was the tournament’s top scorer at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
