The Reds have turned down Bayern Munich’s opening offer for Sadio Mane, reports Paul Joyce of The Times. The Senegal international is looking to leave the club this summer in search of a new opportunity, with Bayern a possible destination.
The Bavarians submitted a 21 million pounds offer for the striker, with one eye on his expiring contract in 2023, albeit with a potential add-on fee of up to 4 million. The Reds have rejected an approach, but, as per widespread reports, Bayern’s interest in the attacker is likely to remain.
Furthermore, according to Fabrizio Romano, the Bundesliga champions would have no trouble reaching an agreement with Mane on personal terms. The Bavarians will continue to explore options to bring in the Senegal international this summer after it was revealed that he is among their primary targets.
Mane, for his part, is looking to leave Liverpool after six successful years with the club. The 30-year-old is in his penultimate contract year at Anfield, and an extension at this point seems unlikely. This means the Premier League and Champions League runners-up will have to sell their talisman this summer or risk losing him for free the next.
In a recent interview, he confirmed his intention to leave the club, claiming that he will do what the majority of his country wants him to do – hinting at an exit.
“Like everyone else, I’m on social media and I see the comments. “Isn’t it between 60 to 70 per cent of Senegalese that want me to leave Liverpool? I will do what they want. We will see soon! Don’t be in a hurry because we’ll see this together.”
While the forward later clarified that his comments were meant to be taken in jest, he refused to commit his future to the Reds.
“I spoke yesterday while joking with a bit of humour and it was everywhere. I think we’ll stop there. Liverpool is a club I respect a lot. The fans adopted me since day one. Regarding the future, we’ll see,”
he clarified.
Joining from Southampton in 2016 for 41,2 million euros, Mane has played 269 games for Jurgen Klopp’s side and scored 120 goals.
