Following the success of Bruno Guimaraes at St James’ Park, Newcastle United are looking to add more Brazilians to their squad.
The Magpies’ summer rework could add a Brazilian flair to the squad, with the Magpies linked strongly to Lyon midfielder Lucas Paqueta, Sevilla centre-back Diego Carlos, and Atletico Madrid left-back Renan Lodi. The Premier League outfit beat European heavyweights to sign Selecao star Guimaraes from Lyon previously, whose arrival in January helped Eddie Howe and his coaching staff keep the team afloat.
Following the success of Guimaraes, Newcastle are keen to return to Lyon to sign Paqueta. The attacking midfielder, who signed for the Ligue 1 side following a short spell with AC Milan, has been a revelation in France, scoring 21 goals across all competitions in 78 appearances since August 2020.
However, prising him away from Lyon won’t be easy; as per The Times, Newcastle will have to break their previous transfer record of 40 million pounds that they spent on Joelinton to get the French side to negotiate. A price tag of 50 million is reported for the Brazil international.
Meanwhile, the newly-rich Premier League side is also keen on signing Carlos, reports 90MIN. In January, the central defender was keen to join Howe’s revolution at St James’ Park, but the Magpies balked at Sevilla’s 60 million price tag for him, and the move fell through. Aston Villa, too, were linked with the 29-year-old in recent days.
Finally, the Magpies are also keeping an eye on left-back Lodi. The Atletico defender fell behind teammates Yannick Carrasco and Reinildo in the pecking order and made 29 appearances (accumulating just 1,181 minutes). As per 90MIN, the Brazilian is keen to move to England, where Newcastle are interested in signing him in place of Matt Targett, who, despite his successful short loan spell, could be sent back to Villa.
