The Gunners have been in touch with Sau Paulo striker Marquinho for quite a few weeks and a deal was agreed in principle for the teenage winger at the end of last week. And according to Goal.com, the Premier League giants are set to pay Sao Paulo around 3 million pounds for the 19-year-old.
As per the same source, the final details of the transfer have been finalised and the player has arrived in London to complete his medical. He is expected to sign a five-year deal with the Gunners that is set to run until 2027.
Meanwhile, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano too has confirmed the potential transfer of the player to the Premier League giants.
It is being claimed that though the player will be signed keeping a sight on the future, he could get a chance to impress in pre-season. The Gunners expect the player to replicate what Gabriel Martinelli did in 2019. The North Londoners are however hopeful of bringing in two senior forwards on top of the Marquinhos deal.
The player signed a five-year deal with Sao Paulo when he signed his first professional contract in 2019. Although FIFA does not recognise first professional contracts longer than three years, Brazilian Football Confederation does. Hence, according to the global governing body, the player is out of contract this summer despite being under contract according to his local federation.
With Sao Paulo unable to convince the teenager to extend, the simple solution for the club is to sell cheap. The player has also impressed Wolverhampton Wolves in the Premier League and Atletico Madrid in La Liga.
A left-footed player, Marquinhos primarily plays on the right-flank. Although he primarily operates as a winger, he can also play through the centre. Despite turning only 19 last month, Marquinhos has already made 40 appearances for Sao Paulo.
