There was a lot of buzz among the football community regarding Harry Kane’s future and whether it is the right decision for the Englishman to stay at Tottenham Hotspur during his prime as the Lillywhites are not sure to win any trophies.
Recently, The Athletic revealed that the 27-year-old forward is contemplating his future with Spurs as he is increasingly getting concerned with the club’s inability to win major trophies. While Kane is not ready to decide on his future just now, he has assured that he will make a call after the upcoming European Championships.
Currently, Kane’s contract with the Lillywhites run till the end of 2023 and therefore. Any decision of leaving Spurs has to be sanctioned by chairman Daniel Levy. While it won’t be easy to negotiate with the American, he and the club have always shared that Kane is not for sale. But if they want someone of that calibre, then there will be stones in the way.
The 27-year-old learned the ropes at the Spurs academy and is therefore deeply connected with the club. He is keen to give his all and help Jose Mourinho’s men to clinch major titles. However, as he approaches 28 this year, he has made his priorities clear in interaction with Sky Sports’ Jamie Redknapp.
When quizzed whether he is willing to stay at Spurs, Kane said
“It’s one of those things; I couldn’t say yes, I couldn’t say no. I love Spurs – I’ll always love Spurs. But it’s one of those things.
I’ve always said if I don’t feel we’re progressing as a team or going in the right direction, then I’m not someone to just stay there for the sake of it. I’m an ambitious player. I want to improve, I want to get better, I want to become one of the top, top players.
It all depends on what happens as a team and how we progress as a team. So it’s not a definite I’m going to stay there forever, but it’s not a no either.”
However, Jose Mourinho’s men can definitely increase the chances of holding onto their most prized asset as they face Manchester United in the Carabao Cup’s quarterfinals and winning it will mean that they will be one step closer to a title. It will be the same tournament which they won last in their club history 13 years ago. Spurs are currently five points outside the top four with a game in hand, and therefore a Champions League spot is not at all out of sight for the North London outfit.
But the news of Kane contemplating a move away from Spurs will raise interest from top European clubs. Manchester City are looking for a striker to replace their record goalscorer, Sergio Aguero, leaving the side after a decade. Kane can be that perfect fit for Pep Guardiola’s system as he can drop deep and facilitate the players around him, and he also has great goalscoring instincts, something that the Citizens will cherish in their ranks.
Manchester United have also been very vocal about their interest in the England captain as they are also eager to sign him this summer. Meanwhile, Real Madrid are also eyeing a move for either Harry Kane or Kylian Mbappe. If things go as per plan, they will land one of the forwards, and there are high chances that it can be Kane considering his all-round abilities as a striker. If given a choice, even Paris Saint Germain may also look to enter the race and join the bidding war as their current manager, Mauricio Pochettino, who was earlier with Spurs, is a massive admirer of the English marksman.
Harry Kane has been in excellent touch this season as he is currently the joint top scorer in the Premier League with 19 goals. Along with that, he tops the assists charts with 13 assists, making him a complete striker.
