Bangladesh have announced a 21-member preliminary squad for their upcoming Test tour of Sri Lanka. They have included three uncapped fast bowlers in Mukidul Islam, Shahidul Islam and Shoriful Islam. Moreover, the chief selector Minhajul Abedin said that they will announce a squad after their intra-squad practice match.
The trio of Mustafizur Rahman, Soumya Sarkar and Hasan Mahmud who were a part of Bangladesh’s squad that played against West Indies at home have been excluded. Rajasthan Royals have picked Rahman for the IPL 2021, and he is already in India. Meanwhile, Shakib Al Hasan decided long ago that he will skip the Sri Lanka tour to play the IPL with the Kolkata Knight Riders.
On the other hand, Nurul Hasan, Shuvagoto Hom and Khaled Ahmed make a comeback to the Test squad. The Bangladesh selectors have decided to send additional net bowlers as they will not be provided net bowlers in Sri Lanka.
We have formed an extended squad as we will not have net bowlers while we will also play an intra-squad practice match. We will announce the Test squad after the practice game, and the cricketers failing to make a spot in the Test squad will return home in due time
Minhajul Abedin, BCB chief selector was quoted saying to Cricbuzz.
Bangladesh will play a two-day intra-squad match on the 17th and 18th of April at the CMC in Katunayake. The Test series kicks off on the 21st of April, and the second Test match will start on the 29th of April. Both the Test matches will be played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
