Former Atletico Madrid defender was arrested in 2017 for disobeying a court rule which banned him from contacting his girlfriend after things got heated between the couple, reports France24.
In February 2017, Hernandez’s girlfriend Amelia Ossa Llorente was hospitalised after minor injuries on her body resulting from a violent exchange between the two. They both were sentenced to 31 days of community service.
Despite being ordered not to meet for the next six months, they were spotted at the airport four months later. This was when Hernandez was arrested for the first time as he did not abide by the ruling of the Madrid court.
Usually, in Spain, people sentenced to less than 2-years in prison do not go to jail. They both had a restraining order put by a judge, which was violated in 2019 when they travelled to the United States.
Hernandez was sentenced to a six-month stay in prison in December 2019. As this was the 25-year-old’s second offence, he was ordered to go to jail. He has been given ten days from Tuesday to present himself in front of the Madrid court.
Hernandez’s ability to play centre-back and left-back has been a massive plus at both club and country levels. The versatile defender was a part of the French World Cup-winning squad in 2018. Lucas was an unused sub in the Didier Deschamps-led side that won the Nations League on October 10.
After his move to Munich in 2019, the Frenchman has won a treble and one more Bundesliga title at Allianz Arena. After Jerome Boateng and David Alaba’s departures, he will be hoping to nail down his spot in the Bayern starting lineup under Julian Nagelsmann.
