Juventus came from a goal down to beat Spezia 3-2 and climb out of the relegation places. Later, AC Milan beat Venezia by two goals to nil to maintain their unbeaten start to the campaign.
The Bianconeri were winless in four prior to the Spezia game, having drawn against Udinese (2-2) and AC Milan (1-1) and suffering defeats against Napoli (1-2) and Empoli (0-1).
Moise Kean gave Juve the lead in the 28th minute with a strike from just outside the box. The forward brought the ball down perfectly before finding the bottom corner despite being crowded out. Spezia were behind for just five minutes and found themselves on level terms when Emmanuel Gyasi shot from inside the box took Wojciech Szczesny by surprise.
Thiago Motta’s side took the lead shortly after the resumption of the game in the second half, courtesy of Janis Antiste’s deflected effort.
However, Juventus came back into the match in the 66th minute, when Federico Chiesa wriggled his way through a horde of bodies crowding the opposition box, and poked the ball past the goalkeeper.
Matthijs De Ligt squeezed the ball over the line from a set-piece six minutes later, and Juventus held on to register their first domestic win of the campaign.
Elsewhere, a depleted AC Milan beat newly-promoted Venezia by two goals to nil, with left-back Theo Hernandez grabbing a goal and an assist. While Milan dominated proceedings, it took them until the 68th minute to break Venezia’s resolve and take the lead; the in-form Brahim Diaz bundled the ball over the net from a Hernandez cross.
The Frenchman got on the scoresheet himself in the 82nd minute. Alexis Saelemaekers’ run through the middle of the pitch drew Spezia defenders to the Belgian. However, once he had managed to squirm past the challenges, he found Hernandez marauding down the left wing and in acres of space. The defender took a touch before firing the ball into the bottom corner.
