After a lot of speculation, SC East Bengal have announced the arrival of the former Maribor midfielder, who will be responsible for pulling strings from the middle of the park under the tutelage of new head coach Jose Manuel Diaz.
Amir Dervisevic, who became SC East Bengal’s first foreign signing of this season, has plied his trade for NK Maribor for eight years. He has featured in over 160 games and winning the Slovenian top flight three times along with one Slovenian Cup.
Dervisevic started his career at NK Interblock Ljubljana’s youth team and gradually made it to the first team. He joined NK Krka in 2012, and only after featuring for one season he jumped ship to join NK Maribor. He played a pivotal role in midfield for the club that made it to the group stage of the 2014 Champions League.
“I am very happy to have signed with SC East Bengal. It’s a new challenge for me and I hope to have a very good season with my new teammates and all the technical staff.
My primary target is to fight to win every match with this club so rich in history because I know this team has a winning mentality and so does our new coach,”
“I have heard about the derby in this part of the world. It is massive and one that I am looking forward to. I have been part of the biggest derby in Slovenia for so many years. I know the sentiment and what it means to the fans,”
Dervisevic said after completing formalities.
At 6 ft 5, he is expected to have the upper hand in aerial and ground duels in midfield. The 29-year-old is also capable of controlling the tempo and sitting back, shielding the backline.
He is also a specialist when it comes to set pieces and has a great vision to pick out players from the middle of the park.
Dervisevic will look to settle in India very quickly and help the Red and Golds improve on their performances from last season.
