Saturday’s WC2022 qualifier between the Netherlands and Montenegro witnessed a bizarre incident as at least 16 fans ran onto the field during the closing stages of the match.
Among them was a 13-year-old Amin who even managed to take a selfie with Dutch and Barcelona forward Memphis Depay. The Amsterdam boy was seen proudly telling his story to various news channels a day later as well.
However, as things stand now, all the fans who stepped onto the field in Eindhoven without any permission, including Amin, have been handed stadium bans.
KNVB told Amin’s parents in a telephonic call on Tuesday that he, along with the others who violated the security, will not be allowed to enter the stadium for five years.
If this was the first violation, the stadium ban can be reduced to 15 months (with 45 months probation). If so, they will also have to accept an alternative punishment.
Everyone who entered the field will be fined 450 euros. However, KNVB have taken Amin’s age into consideration, which is why he will be fined only 100 Euros.
Amin’s act was apparently the result of a casually given challenge by his mother. As she was heard talking in Humberto, Humberto Tan’s talk show on RTL4, on Sunday evening, she had just challenged Amin to do this stunt during the match for fun.
It seems that the youngster enjoyed his own little daredevilry quite a lot as well.
“Nobody expects something like this and that’s why I thought: I have to do it,”
There were still two minutes to play and I still had so much adrenaline that I thought: now I have to go,”
he was quoted as saying by The Youth News.
As far as the match result goes, Netherlands eased past Montenegro comfortably by a 4-0 scoreline. Depay netted the first two goals before Georginio Wijnaldum, and Coady Gakpo scored the other two in the 70th and the 76th minute, respectively.
