Indian Super League side Kerala Blasters have announced the arrival of Spanish forward Alvaro Vazquez from Sporting Gijon. Earlier, he was linked with other ISL clubs.
The 30-year-old started his career at Espanyol’s academy in 2012 and gradually rose through the ranks. He had a decent debut La Liga season with Espanyol’s first team featuring in 29 matches where he registered four goals and two assists. He maintained that performance in the following season with five goals and an assist.
He then moved out to join Getafe to score four goals in the La Liga in 29 appearances. He then plied his trade in England for Swansea City on loan. He has also featured in the Europa League for the Swans. But in his 12 Premier League appearances, Vazquez failed to open his scoring for the Swans. Hence he returned to Spain to join Getafe again.
In the 2014-15 season, he netted seven goals in 21 La Liga appearances. He followed up with an even better season with five goals and four assists for Getafe before joining Espanyol for a second stint.
His second stint at Espanyol was followed by two loan deals at Segunda outfits Gimnastic and Zaragoza. After a stunning Segunda season with Zaragoza, Sporting Gijon snapped him up in 2019. The season before, he scored 10 goals in the Segunda for Zaragoza.
With offers coming in from India, Vazquez decided to try a different challenge. He will definitely be one of the top signings coming to Indian shores in this Indian Super League season.
The Blasters have signed some great foreigners in the Argentinian striker Jorge Pereyra Diaz, who is all set to combine with the Spaniard upfront, and the Uruguayan midfielder Adrian Luna will pull strings from midfield.
The south Indian club are eager to improve on their last season’s performance, and all eyes will be on their new manager Ivan Vukomanovic and his new arrivals.
