Francisco Trincao has recently joined the Wolves on loan as he prepares for a big Premier League season. The youngster joined FC Barcelona from his youth club SC Braga last season.
The winger’s former academy coach Jose Carvalho Araujo, who worked with him at Braga, believes that the move to Catalunya was in haste. He believes that the Portuguese winger will be better suited to the Premier League as he gears up to don the orange for the Wolves.
The 21-year-old made 42 appearances for Barcelona last season and only scored three goals. He was mostly used as a substitute by manager Ronald Koeman.
“It [a move to Spain] was the first challenge that he had outside of his comfort zone and I do not think it was the best moment to be joining Barcelona as a young player.
“It was a transition stage for the club with all the troubles that they had with Lionel Messi and the board.”
he told Sky Sports.
He continued making controversial comments as he directed his doubts over Koeman and his ability to develop young players. Araujo also added how Wolves’ new manager Bruno Lage is known for developing young players and feels Trincao will benefit from this move to Wolves.
“I do not know Ronald Koeman but he did not seem like a guy who would develop young talent.
“[Wolves boss] Bruno Lage did that at Benfica. He took several young kids and did an amazing job there. He is the guy to develop young talent and I think that will help a lot. Knowing Bruno Lage, he understands how to motivate young players and give them the tools to improve.
“Trincao will be more mature for his experience at Barcelona and he will also know some of the players at Wolves. It is more of a family environment for him.”
The crafty winger featured in 28 matches in the La Liga last season. However, among all those matches Koeman only offered him three starts. Therefore Araujo’s claims are more or less justified as Koeman did not allow him the time to develop at such a big club.
He failed to make a mark at Camp Nou and was mostly restricted to a substitute role in his first season. The Portuguese winger failed to develop any consistency and hence his performances were also not up to the mark.
Trincao will hope that a change in atmosphere will bring great fortune for him as he moves out to Wolverhampton. The Premier League outfit is full of Portuguese talents, and that will help him connect with the players and know more of the culture in England. With all the aspects combined, Trincao should have a better adaptation process at Wolves.
The West Midlands outfit will see a new start at Molineux as former Benfica manager Bruno Lage will start his reign replacing Nuno Espirito Santo. Although Nuno has joined Spurs this summer, the Portuguese tactician’s legacy at the Molineux will live for ages.
