The second edition of the Lanka Premier League is all set to kickstart on the 30th of July and the final will be played on the 22nd of August. Sri Lanka Cricket mentioned that the health protocols for this second season will be planned on the guidelines of the Health Ministry.
The second edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) is all set to be held between the 30th of July and the 22nd of August. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) officially confirmed the same through a statement.
SLC wishes to reiterate that the second edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) will be held during July and August 2021, as earlier announced. Accordingly, the tournament will be held from 30th July to 22nd August 2021.
The SLC was quoted saying in a statement.
SLC further said that the inaugural season was successful under a bio-secure bubble environment. But now, they will follow the Health Ministry for various guidelines and directions for the health protocols.
The 2020 edition was held under a successful bio-bubble environment. Health protocols for the 2nd edition of the LPL will be planned based on the directions of the Ministry of Health.

The first edition of the LPL was played in November-December last year. All matches were held at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium in Hambantota. Five teams played a round-robin tournament before the top four sides featured in the semi-final. The Thisara Perera-led Jaffna Stallions beat Galle Gladiators in the final to lift the first-ever title in the LPL.
It was a pretty successful event. Quite a few top stars from around the world took part and in fact, it attracted as many as 135 millions viewers from around the world to watch the final. The likes of Andre Russell, Dale Steyn, Shoaib Malik, and Kyle Abbott were among the top stars who featured in the tournament. Moreover, Irfan Pathan, Munaf Patel, and Sudeep Tyagi were the Indian cricketers who played in the LPL.
This second season of the LPL comes at a really good time, especially for the Sri Lankan cricketers. It will help them and even the fringe players an opportunity to get into the T20 groove ahead of the T20 World Cup which is scheduled to start on the 18th of October.
