The Portuguese tactician gave his first press conference as the head coach of AS Roma, during which he directed those present through a tour of his past achievements.
The new head coach of AS Roma guided the press through a tour of his most famous achievements of recent years in his first press conference. Mourinho called himself “a victim of his own success” when asked about his time in England before pointing out his accomplishments in the Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur dugouts.
“I am a victim of everything I have done before. I am victim of how people look at me now, unfortunately,”
“At Manchester United, I won three trophies and it was called a disaster. At Tottenham, after arriving in a tough moment, I reached a final that I was unable to lead the side out in.
What is a disaster for me would be an amazing achievement for others.”
he said.
Trophies have distinguished Mourinho from his peers in the past, but so has his broken relationships with several players. Reports suggest that Mourinho has already begun the brutal process of excluding players from his plans.
Angelo Mangiante reports that Mourinho has told eight players they won’t be a part of the AS Roma squad for the coming season.
Roma are expected to deliver new players for Mourinho, one of whom is goalkeeper Rui Patricio. The Portugal international is thought to be finalizing his move to Rome from Wolverhampton and could soon be joined by Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka.
