Two West Indian women’s players, Chinelle Henry and Chedean Nation, collapsed on the field during a T20I match against Pakistan. The players were hospitalised and are stable.
Two incidents occurred in a span of 10 minutes when the West Indies were fielding. Henry was the first one to collapse on the ground during the fourth over of the Pakistan chase and was stretchered off.
A few minutes later, Nation was also taken off. Both the players were taken to a nearby hospital and were reported to be conscious and stable, according to CWI media manager.
The Pakistan skipper, Javeria Khan, wished the players a speedy recovery.
“The thoughts and prayers of the whole Pakistan team are with Chinelle Henry and Chedean Nation. We wish them a quick recovery,”
“Such incidents are tragic and can shake whole dressing rooms. Hats off to the West Indies that they turned up and completed the match despite the grave incident.”
she said in a statement.
After a short delay, the match went on, which eventually, the West Indies won by 7 runs on the DLS method after another rain break. Windies put on 125/6 in 20 overs, in which Kycia Knight top-scored for Windies with 30 from 20 balls while Fatima Sana picked 2 for 18. In return, Pakistan could only manage 103/6 in 18 overs, including five run-outs.
The West Indies Women have sealed the series win with one more T20I to be played. The final T20I match is slated to be played on July 4, after which the ODI series will start from July 7 and conclude on July 18.
