Former France international Eric Di Meco does not want the French giants to surrender in front of player pressure.
There are a lot of rumours floating around Mbappe with clear interest from Real Madrid. He is entering his last year on his current contract, and there is no sign of him signing an extension.
The 22-year-old Frenchman is one of the sought after stars in world football, and he very well understands his demand in the current market. While Paris Saint-Germain have the financial muscle and may play hardball with the youngster.
Recently, Mbappe was criticised as he old missed a decisive penalty against Switzerland, resulting in France’s elimination from the European Championship. Les Blues were one of the favourites to win the tournament, but they were shocked by a buoyant Swiss side showing determination to progress through to the quarterfinals.
However, Di Meco who has represented France 23 times, wants PSG to play the hardball if Mbappe wants to pressurise them. He wants the club to bench the youngster for the whole season if he wants to force an exit by expiring his current contract.
“The problem in this story is that by letting him go into the last year of his contract, he is the one who holds the cards,”
“What you can do when you are PSG and you are powerful is say: ‘You don’t want to continue [with us]? Well you can stay on the bench all year’.
“Paris has the means to do it. And by doing that, you show the guys who arrive that they cannot run the show.”
he told RMC Sport.
Mbappe has spent four years with PSG guiding them to three Ligue 1 titles and a Champions League final in that period. However, he has been excellent with his goalscoring exploits, netting 111 goals in 127 appearances for the Parisians while developing a great partnership with Brazilian forward Neymar.
The Brazilian has already pledged his future with the French club and will be leading them to a new Ligue 1. The Parisians will be looking to regain the French league crown, which they lost last season to LOSC Lille. However, Mbappe is continuously stalling his extension and losing him will be a big blow for the French giants.
Despite a lot of interest from several clubs, Mbappe’s price is sky high right now. However, as he moves closer to free agency, his prices are expected to drop massively.
