A complaint has been filed against Sabbir Rahman for allegedly throwing a stone at Elias Sunny and racial abuse during a Dhaka Premier League match.
The controversies in the Dhaka Premier League do not seem to die down as, in another horrifying incident, Bangladesh cricketer Sabbir Rahman has come under the scanner. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club has filed an official complaint against Rahman for throwing stones and racially abusing one of their players, Elias Sunny. The club alleged that the incident happened during a DPL match in Dhaka on June 16.
Rahman, who was slated to take the field for the Legends of Rupganj later in the day, allegedly hurled racial slurs and threw stones at Elias Sunny, who was fielding at deep square leg.
Play was halted for a while on Wednesday as Sunny informed the umpires about the incident. After the conclusion of the match, the club wrote a letter to the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis seeking strict action for Rahman’s behaviour.
“H” used abusive language in a racist manner saying, “O” black, black, Elias”.”For a professional cricketer, such behaviour is not only indecent but also punishable. In this situation, we request you to take disciplinary action against Sabbir Rahman.”
Sunny revealed to ESPNcricinfo that Rahman had hurled racial slurs at him earlier in the season as well. In 2017, he was handed a six-month ban for assaulting a fan during a first class match. In the next year, he served another six-month ban from International cricket for abusing a fan on social media. In the 2019 World Cup, he was involved in a verbal spat with his Bangladeshi teammate Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
