Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit has expressed his desire to see Wilfred Zaha donning the Arsenal kit. This, however, is not the first time the Crystal Palace player is being linked with Arsenal. He was on the ‘wish list’ of former Arsenal manager Unai Emery.
After a difficult 2019/20 season, where he managed to score only four times, Zaha returned to form again in the recently-concluded season. The Ivorian winger scored 11 goals in 30 Premier League appearances for the South London club, which marks his best tally ever in this competition.
Speaking to Paddy Power, former French international said:
“Zaha is an unpredictable player, you don’t know what he’s going to do with the ball. He’s got a strong character, and sometimes he needs to control his emotions, but he’s exactly the kind of player Arsenal need. He’d get the fans excited and stimulate his own team-mates too.”
Petit bemused with Arsenal’s transfer policy
One of the many reasons behind Arsenal’s fall from grace has been their transfer market activities. Some of their new signings, like Willian, have had a season to forget, and while their club-record signing Nicolas Pepe certainly had a better season than last time around, one might argue that he still isn’t justifying his price tag.
Speaking on that, Petit said
“They (Arsenal) probably can’t compete for the big players, but they need to get decent players, with the right mentality.
Arsenal have spent £40m, £50m, £60m on players recently and I’ve found myself wondering, ‘Why have they bought that guy? Give me one argument, one reason why you bought this player’.”
