After a summer in which the club was repeatedly linked with potential targets, the Reds are still being linked with the signing of a new midfielder. Finally, a loan agreement was reached with Juventus to bring in Arthur Melo.
Milinkovic-Savic is the latest player to be linked with a move to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool. According to the Italian news outlet Calciomercato, the Reds are considering signing the 27-year-old next summer.
The player’s current contract with Lazio is set to expire in 2024, meaning he will have only 12 months left by the time next summer arrives. According to the article, it is for this reason that the Serie A club may consider a deal to let the Serbia international leave.
At Anfield, the midfield needs to be strengthened. Klopp’s men have had a disappointing start to the season, sitting ninth in the Premier League table with 10 points from seven games. Gomez only recently signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool, extending his stay at Anfield until 2027. Given this, it would seem unlikely that the club would actively seek to part ways with the centre-back after such a long-term commitment.
