Liverpool’s left-back Andy Robertson has stated that he hopes to finish his career at Anfield but has not ruled out a move elsewhere. The Scotland international has been at the Merseyside club since 2017, in what has proven to be one of the best pieces of business done by the Reds under Jurgen Klopp.
The player has since won everything with Liverpool, appearing in 232 games in all competitions and contributing eight goals and an incredible 55 assists to Klopp’s team.
“Ideally I want to finish my career at Liverpool, if I can stay at the top of my game for my whole career, that’s the route I’ll go down,”
he told BT Sport.
However, if Robertson loses his starting spot in Liverpool’s first eleven, the Scotland international has not ruled out a move to Celtic, which he regards as a dream. The 28-year-old also spoke about growing up as a Hoops fan and a potential move to Celtic Park.
“I always dreamt of giving my best years to Celtic. I don’t want to go as a 34/35-year-old guy that my uncles start hating on because I can’t move anymore so look, time will tell.”
The interview makes it clear that Robertson supports both clubs, but it is more likely that the Scotland star will end his career with Celtic. When talking about Celtic Park, the 28-year-face old’s lights up, and it’s clear that it’s a dream come true for the Scot. However, if he manages to continue performing at a high level well into his thirties, there is a chance he will retire at Anfield.
Robertson was an integral member in Liverpool’s Champions League and Premier League winning teams in 2019 and 2020. The Scot, who has made seven appearances for Klopp’s side this season but is currently out injured, is under contract at Anfield until 2026.
