Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann and club CEO Oliver Kahn have both confirmed the club’s interest in Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane. However, a summer move appears unlikely due to the 28-year-old’s hefty price tag.
Kane is one of the game’s most lethal strikers and has been a standout performer for Spurs over the years. In 386 games across all competitions, he has 248 goals. The forward is coming off a 27-goal season in 2021-22, and he is under contract with Tottenham until the summer of 2024.
Transfermarkt values Kane at 90 million euros, but Spurs are likely to demand more for his services. Nagelsmann responded (via transfer expert Fabrizio Romano) when asked if Bayern would sign Kane:
“He is very expensive. He is strong with the ball, strong body – but at that price, it is really difficult. We will have to see what happens in the future.”
Nagelsmann’s admission comes just days after Bayern CEO Kahn discussed the club’s interest in Kane.
“He is under contract at Tottenham. Sure, an absolute top striker, but that’s all a dream of the future. So let’s see what happens,”
the former Germany captain said, per Romano.
Despite being one of the best strikers in the world, Kane is yet to win a trophy. He tried to leave Spurs last summer and was on the verge of joining Manchester City. According to The Guardian, Spurs turned down a 100 million pounds bid from the Citizens, insisting that Kane was not for sale.
Earlier this week, striker Robert Lewandowski put an end to his eight-year association with Bayern to join Barcelona in a 45 million euro deal. His departure has left a significant void in Bayern’s offensive line, and the Bavarians may look to sign Kane as a replacement for the 33-year-old. With 183 goals, England’s captain ranks fifth all-time in Premier League scoring.
