After months in limbo, the former Juventus star Paulo Dybala is nearing a transfer to Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma. The Bianconeri confirmed their separation with the Argentine forward at the end of the previous month after his contract came to an end. Since then, the Argentine has been linked with a move to Inter Milan, with rumours of a reunion with Giuseppe Marotta – the man who brought the attacker to Juventus in the first place – fueling the fire.
However, Marotta, in a recent interview, confirmed that the Nerazzurri won’t be signing the 28-year-old in all likelihood, given the strength of their front line. The club added Romelu Lukaku to their list of forwards this summer, a list which includes Lautaro Martinez, Edin Dzeko, Joaquin Correa, and Alexis Sanchez already.
“Dybala is part of the many players available for free. I had never seen so many and it proves that football is changing and that more courage is needed at a youth level”.
“Dybala represented and still represents an opportunity, but we are ok in attack with valuable players who the coach will need to manage in the best way even if I have a solid bond with Dybala,”
he was quoted as saying by Football Italia.
AS Roma emerged as the leading candidates for Dybala days earlier. Jose Mourinho already has Tammy Abraham, Eldor Shomurodov, and Nicolo Zaniolo to call upon but lost attacker Henrikh Mkhitaryan to Inter this summer, leaving a gap to be filled.
According to Gianluca di Marzio, the Giallorossi quickly struck an agreement with the player’s representatives after a meeting on Sunday – and he is currently on his way to their training camp in Portugal to take his medical examinations and meet his new teammates.

Once Roma confirms the transfer, Dybala would become the club’s fourth signing of the season. Mourinho’s side has already added midfielder Nemanja Matic and goalkeeper Mile Svilar to their ranks as free agents and paid Lille 7 million euros for the transfer of right-back Mehmet Zeki Celik.
