Serie A champions AC Milan have signed Liverpool cult hero Divock Origi on a free transfer after his contract with the Reds expired. The 27-year-old becomes Milan’s first new signing of the summer – the club also extended Antonio Mirante’s contract by another year and signed Alessandro Florenzi permanently from AS Roma – on a four-year contract, which will run until the end of the 2025/26 season.
The Belgian leaves Liverpool after eight years, two of which he spent out on loan at Lille and Wolfsburg, respectively. His record at Merseyside reads as follows: 176 appearances, 41 goals, and a trophy cabinet displaying the Premier League, the UEFA Champions League, the FA Cup, and the League Cup titles.
Elsewhere, Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma have made their third signing of the 2022 summer transfer window. Mehmet Zeki Celik, a Turkish international right-back, has signed for the Giallorossi in a 7 million euro deal from Lille on a contract until the end of the 2025/26 season.
Celik, who signed for Les Dogues from Istanbulspor in 2018, played a crucial role in their 2020-21 Ligue 1 title win, ahead of favourites Paris Saint-Germain.
He spoke of the honour it is to represent the Roman club in his first interview while promising his best for the new team.
“It’s an honor for me to play for such a big club; I have big ambitions and I want to help this team be successful. I feel focused and ready – I will never let up and you will always see me fighting for everything out there on the pitch.”
he said.
Celik leaves Lille after more than a hundred appearances for the club across four years. During this period, the 25-year-old also nailed down a starting spot with the Turkey national team.
He has made 32 appearances and scored two goals for his international side so far. Celik joins Nemanja Matic and Mile Svilar in Rome, both of whom signed for the Giallorossi on a free transfer days earlier.
