Liverpool have beaten competition from Leeds United, Watford, and Sassuolo for Aberdeen right-back Calvin Ramsay. The Reds closed a deal with the Scottish club for the teenager, agreeing to pay 5 million pounds for his services plus an additional 3 million in bonuses.

Ramsay, who broke onto the scene last year in Scotland, will pen a long-term contract with the club and join the first-team in place of Neco Williams, with the Welshman expected to leave in search of first-team opportunities following a successful spell during the second half of the previous season at Fulham.

Ramsay’s arrival will halt Liverpool’s summer business, for the time being, reports Paul Joyce of The Times. The club was also keen to add a midfielder among their ranks but, as per the report, are prepared to wait until next year for reinforcements.

The 18-year-old made his first appearance for Aberdeen during the 2020/21 season but became a fixture on the right side of defence the season after, despite a revolving door of managerial changes. He made 33 appearances for the Dons across all competitions in 2021/22, scored one goal, provided nine assists, and was named the Scottish Football Writers’ Association’s Young Player of the Year.

The young right-back will become the third – and final – arrival of the current transfer window, following attacking midfielder Fabio Carvalho and centre-forward Darwin Nunez. The Reds paid Fulham a meager 5 million pounds fee – rising up to 7.7 million after add-ons – to sign Carvalho but broke the bank for Darwin, who will become the club’s record signing if all the potential bonuses are achieved.

However, Liverpool also bid farewell to long-serving forward Divock Origi, scorer of the goal that sealed the club’s Champions League win in 2018/19. Sadio Mane is likely to leave the Reds this summer with Bayern Munich closing in on a move, while Takumi Minamino is attracting interest from elsewhere, too.
