Champions League finalists Liverpool are willing to trigger teenage sensation Gavi’s release clause at Barcelona this summer, according to various reports from Spain.
The 17-year-old La Masia graduate is considered one of the most gifted teenage prodigies in world football at the moment, having been described as a ‘spectacular’ talent by Barca boss Xavi Hernandez.
The player has already featured regularly for both the club and Spain national team, contributing six times in 46 appearances for the former while also playing nine times for the latter. However, the midfielder is yet to agree on new terms with Barca and given his contract expires next summer, the Reds are said to be interested in signing him.
Recently, Fabrizio Romano had revealed that there is yet no agreement between the player and the Catalan giants. And now, Spanish media outlet Beteve claims that Liverpool are interested in signing Gavi this summer and are happy to trigger his 42.5 million pounds release clause.
As per the same report, it is believed that the player still wants to remain in Catalunya but is unimpressed with the LaLiga giants’ initial offer, which is four times less than what Liverpool are said to have been offering the player – 147 thousand pounds per week.
However, it is hugely unlikely given the player’s ties to Barca and the loyalty he will show to his boyhood club. That coupled with reports of Frenkie De Jong joining Manchester United this summer would mean the player will be a central figure to the club’s plans and thus he may want to remain with the Camp Nou based side.
Barca, whose debt is estimated at 1.5 billion dollars, are said to be adamant about keeping hold of the player. They view the player along with Pedri as one of the club’s jewels and hope the duo replicate what Xavi and Andres Iniesta achieved in the 2000s.
On the other hand, the Reds are said to be closer than ever to announce the club-record signing of Benfica striker Darwin Nunez who is expected to replace Bayern Munich-bound Sadio Mane.
