Reliable transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported that Gavi is all set to extend his contract with Barcelona and only final details are left. This hurts Liverpool’s bid to acquire the midfield gem for just 45 million pounds.
Barcelona teenager Gavi is all set to put pen to paper to a new deal which will keep him at the Camp Nou at least until 2027. Gavi is the latest sensational talent to emerge out of Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy and the teenager has taken the world by storm with his fabulous performances.
The 17-year-old has already established himself in the first team and has also represented the Spanish national team. Barcelona, who recently extended the contracts of Ansu Fati, Pedri and Ronald Araujo, are hoping to form a core around these players with Gavi also playing an important role in their future as the rebuild continues at the Camp Nou.
Reliable football transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that Barcelona met with Gavi’s agent, former Barcelona player Ivan de la Pena yesterday and negotiations are already underway. Gavi has consented to the contract that will keep him with the club until 2027 and will also improve his salary keeping in mind his exponential growth and first-team place. His existing release clause of 50 million will be removed and a 1 billion clause will be inserted, as was done with Pedri, Fati, and Araujo recently.
This means that Liverpool are set to miss out on signing the exciting teen for a bargain this summer. The Reds were firmly interested in meeting his release clause. However, that will no longer be in effect as a new contract is being signed.
In all honesty, Liverpool were never truly in the race for Gavi as the player, who has come up through the Barcelona ranks, wanted to renew his relationship and stay with the club as long as possible. His heart was always set on continuing with Barcelona where he has enjoyed the love from fans and the trust from manager Xavi Hernandez.
Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp called him a ‘phenomenon’ upon watching him play for Spain via Sky Sports and it seems to be a shame to miss out on the signing of such a prodigious talent.
