In a bid to sway free agent Paulo Dybala toward joining AS Roma, club legend Francesco Totti says he will offer the number 10 jersey to the Argentine. Meanwhile, Inter Milan are reportedly evaluating the possibility of signing the attacker, who was released by Juventus this summer.
Totti’s number 10 shirt hasn’t been assigned a successor since the Italian’s retirement in 2017. In the five years since the club icon hung up his boots, the iconic number has remained vacant, despite the presence of several big-name stars within the walls of Rome. However, the Italian would have no qualms were Dybala to succeed him as the Giallorossi’s main man.
“I could give Dybala some advice. If it was up to me, I’d give him the Number 10 jersey at Roma, but we’ll have to see if he takes it,”
“I would always give Mourinho the 10, as I really like him both as a coach and a person. I would’ve been very happy to work with him, maybe I’ll come out of retirement!”
Totti told Calciomercato.
The former AS Roma captain has been vocal about his interest in bringing Dybala to the Italian capital. In a prior interview, Totti confirmed that he would attempt to sway the Argentine towards the club when the pair met next – but retained doubts whether the club shared the same idea as him.
“I’ll meet him on Monday and I hope to convince him. I’ll try to put something in his head, hopefully, we’ll succeed. That is if Roma are of the same mind as me.”
Dybala ended his association with Juventus after seven successful years. During this period, the Argentine helped the Bianconeri win the league title five times and the Italian cup four times. His near-decade-long stay in Turin produced 293 appearances and 115 goals.
