English media outlet The Daily Mirror report that AC Milan are closely following William Saliba and are keen on signing him to boost their centre-back department ahead of the 2022-23 season where they will also mark a return to the UEFA Champions League. 21-year-old Saliba had joined Arsenal from Saint Etienne in 2019 for a mammoth 27 million pounds fee but is yet to make an appearance with the first team.

Immediately after his signing, the centre-back was sent on loan back to his former club Saint-Etienne for the 2019-20 season. He was then shipped out to Nice for the second half of last season and has spent the current season on loan at Marseille in France. Despite Arsenal nicking the player from under the noses of bitter rivals Tottenham nearly three years ago, they are yet to show faith in his abilities.

William Saliba in Ligue 1 this season for Marseille:

    ◉ Most touches (2,653)
    ◉ Most passes completed (2,163)
◉ Most passes into opp. half completed (281)
◉ Most offside trap successful (26)

Now he's impressing for his country too. 💪

Following the 50 million arrival of Ben White over the summer, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was insistent on the player getting regular minutes and was sent out on loan to Marseille. The 21-year-old has been very impressive for Jorge Sampaoli’s side this season and has made 48 appearances for them so far. It has also resulted in him getting his first cap for the French senior national team in March.

AC Milan have now entered the race for the French defender and it will be interesting whether Arsenal are keen towards sending him out on loan to Milan or selling him permanently. Arteta has previously suggested that Saliba will get his chance at the Emirates Stadium and the player will be evaluated during the upcoming preseason.

Saliba has previously voiced out frustrations on not getting any chances and being unable to settle in London. Arsenal will have an important decision on their hands regarding the Frenchman back this summer.

Saliba, himself, was asked about his future recently but he preferred to remain quiet and coy.

“I prefer not to speak about my future, but I’m very good here (Marseille). I don’t regret my decision. I have been very happy since day one. I have one year here and I am going to give my all.”
