Youngster Komal Thatal will sign for Jamshedpur FC in the coming few days after spending three seasons at ATK Mohun Bagan. According to multiple reports, the winger has agreed a three-year deal with the Red Miners.
Thatal signed his professional contract with ATK FC (now ATK Mohun Bagan) in the 2017-18 campaign and has only appeared in 20 ISL matches so far, scoring just once. Renowned for his electrifying pace with some deft first- touches, Thatal will be eager to get some much-needed game time under his belt for the Jamshedpur club.
The 20-year-old had only two games in his debut campaign. The following season, in turn, saw the winger appear in 12 ISL matches, seven as a starter, as he scored his first ISL goal against Bengaluru at home.
Thatal was also a part of ATK FC’s triumphant campaign in the 2019-20 season but made fewer appearances than the previous season, playing only six times under Antonio Lopez Habas. In his final season with the Mariners, he once again featured in a handful number of games without netting or assisting.
A crucial member of the Indian squad in the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup, the Sikkimese was one of the stand-out performers for his country in the tournament.
Meanwhile, ATK Mohun Bagan have already signed Liston Colaco from Hyderabad FC as Thatal’s replacement with a record transfer fee of over ₹1 Crore; with Aniket Jadhav joining the Hyderabad club from Jamshedpur to replace Colaco.
The Mariners will be looking for a successful campaign next term after a disappointing loss in the ISL final at the hands of Mumbai City FC, whereas Jamshedpur FC finishing sixth on the table with 27 points will be counting on their youngsters for a productive 2021/22 season.
