Harare, the capital city of Zimbabwe, will be playing host to the national team’s bilateral series against Pakistan, featuring 3 T20Is and 2 Tests, starting April 21.
The tour had been an integral part of the scheduled Future Tours Programme but without confirmation on the dates and venues.
However, Zimbabwe Cricket announced recently that the series will indeed be played at the country’s marquee Harare Sports Club ground.
Pakistan Cricket Board Director of International Cricket, Zakir Khan, also commented on the Zimbabwe visit, saying Pakistan have played a pivotal role in reviving the on-field cricket amid coronavirus pandemic since last year.
For Khan, cricket and the ongoing pandemic can co-exist as long as the health safety of everyone involved, including players, support staff and all else, is taken care of. Khan added that Pakistan will continue to be the front-runners when it comes to championing the cause of the game of cricket within these challenging times.
“The Pakistan Cricket Board has been at the forefront of the revival of international cricket in the post-Covid-19 world and the tour of Zimbabwe is another step in that direction.
We have always maintained that cricket and Covid-19 can co-exist in a safe and secure environment, and we continue to demonstrate this to ensure the game develops and flourishes in these difficult and challenging times,”
Zakir was as quoted saying by The Daily Mail,
Pakistan are currently in South Africa for their limited-overs series comprising 3 ODIs and 4 T20Is, which ends on April 16.
The Zimbabwe series begins on April 21st with the first of three T20Is, followed by matches on April 23rd and April 25th. The visitors, who have been the biggest supporter of Zimbabwe cricket in the last decade, will also be contesting a two-match Test series against the hosts. The first Test will be played from April 29 to May 3 and the second Test from May 7 to 11.
