Brazil national team head coach Tite has apologized to Arsenal and its manager Mikel Arteta after speculation that the North London club were considering him as a replacement for the Spaniard.
It might look smooth sailing for the Gunners this season, but things were not this way at the beginning of the season. After two mediocre seasons with the club, there were considerable doubts creeping in regarding Arteta’s ability to handle the situation. The side also began their Premier League campaign with three successive losses, including an embarrassing defeat to newly-promoted Brentford in the opening fixture.
Despite making a big splash in the transfer window with some key signings, several people felt that it would be a better idea to look for a new manager to helm the team. However, things have taken a U-turn this season as the Gunners have found their form and footing under Arteta. They have looked an extremely impressive side and are battling to return to the Champions League next season.
The environment at the Emirates appears to be healthier now, and reports suggest that Arsenal are looking to tie down the Spaniard to a new long-term contract with his current deal expiring in the summer of 2023.
However, there were still plenty of rumours even until last week regarding managerial upheaval. TV Globo reporter Eric Faria suggested that Brazil boss Tite was being lined up as a potential candidate for the Arsenal job.
“There is already a negotiation of Tite to work in English football, to work at Arsenal. He worked with Edu Gaspar. There is the intention, negotiations have started,”
said the reporter.
However, the news has been blatantly denied by Tite, who called it ‘a lie’. Adding that the Premier League club’s technical director Edu hasn’t had any contact with him whatsoever, Tite said,
“My feeling is of sadness. I feel sad. I am sad because the information given to the public is a lie. The information is a lie.
“Sorry, Arsenal, sorry, Arteta. It wasn’t that situation. It didn’t come from us. No, there is absolutely nothing,”
he told UOL.
