ATK Mohun Bagan missed out on the 2020/21 Indian Super League Winners’ Shield by a matter of seconds. Nevertheless, the Mariners have already started planning for the future. They have concluded the signing of Indian international Liston Colaco on a two-year deal.
Indian international Liston Colaco has signed a two-year contract with ATK Mohun Bagan, the club announced on Saturday, April 10. The Mariners paid Hyderabad FC a record-breaking fee to sign the youngster for the next two seasons. The 22-year-old attacker will join his new teammates on June 1, ahead of the 2021/22 Indian Super League season.
Hyderabad FC, who finished fifth in the 2020/21 ISL season released a statement shortly after Colaco’s sale, confirming the record-breaking status of the deal.
“With a focus on long-term sustainability, Hyderabad FC agreed for Liston’s move in a deal that fetches the highest-ever transfer fee received for an Indian player,”
the club said in a statement.
While the details of the deal remain undisclosed, Hyderabad’s statement confirmed Colaco’s transfer fee in the region upwards of 96.3 lakhs – the sum paid by ATK to Jamshedpur FC for Michael Soosairaj in 2019.
ATKMB will be the third club Colaco represents in the ISL, having previously played for FC Goa and Hyderabad FC. The youngster was also capped by India in the recent international break when he played in the 6-0 thrashing at the hands of the United Arab Emirates.
Meanwhile, ATKMB are not the only club hard at work in the transfer market. Teams have begun preparing for the subsequent league season, while those in continental competitions are strengthening their squad.
Reports suggest 2020/21 ISL regular season and playoff champions Mumbai City FC are set to sign Rahul Bheke and Mohammad Nawaz. While the former is set to arrive from Bengaluru, the latter will join the Islanders from Goa. City recently handed out contract extensions to key duo Bipin Singh and Amey Ranawade. Goa are set to extend the contracts of Brandon Fernandes and Glan Martins. Both players are expected to sign a three-year extension with the club.
