Paris Saint-Germain have four former Real Madrid players among their ranks: Sergio Ramos, Keylor Navas, Angel di Maria and Achraf Hakimi. The Parisian outfit is looking to offload the first three names on the list in the upcoming summer transfer window and will listen to offers for them.
Real Madrid have had quite a few of their players also wear the shirt of PSG. The likes of di Maria and Navas were already at the club before they were joined by former captain Ramos and Achraf Hakimi this summer. PSG shelled out nearly 60 million euros to acquire Hakimi from Inter Milan while Ramos arrived on a free after his contract with Real Madrid expired this summer.
The motorcade between the two prominent European cities Paris and Madrid doesn’t stop just there. Kylian Mbappe, regarded by many as the best in the world right now, has long expressed his desire to play for Los Blancos and he even voiced his opinion publicly while looking for a move this summer. PSG put the foot down on his departure but they are left with no choice as Mbappe is in the final few months of his contract and is in no mood to renew.
While the Parisians will be desperate to offer fatter and more lucrative contracts in order to tempt Mbappe to extend his stay at Paris, they are looking at a few Real Madrid players to move on from their books. Three of those players are big names who have won the Champions League with Real Madrid – di Maria, Ramos and Navas.
According to Get Football News, the Ligue 1 runners-up have agreed to let di Maria leave as a free agent in the upcoming transfer window. It doesn’t come as a surprise given that PSG brought in Di Maria’s national captain Lionel Messi as the left-footed playmaker to occupy the right flank.
Reports also suggest that PSG are looking for a younger alternative to Di Maria and Lucas Paqueta and Ousmane Dembele are two options that they are likely to explore. Dembele’s contract with Barcelona also runs out this summer and the two parties are far from being on the same page in terms of a renewal. The French winger’s agent has also been in constant touch with PSG, making negotiations with Barcelona difficult from an economic perspective.
The club are also looking to move on Ramos and Navas. The duo played an important role behind Real Madrid’s three consecutive Champions League wins but find themselves out of favour in Paris. Navas has been replaced by a more exciting option in Gianluigi Donnarumma who also arrived from AC Milan this summer on a free. Donnarumma is believed to be the keeper of the future while Navas is not getting any younger.
Ramos, widely accepted as among the best central defenders in the world only a couple of years back, is also believed to be on his final legs. Ramos has sustained several injuries in recent years and his performances have been extremely inconsistent. PSG haven’t been hiding the fact that the free transfer hasn’t worked out as well as they had expected. Ramos’ inability to contribute despite being on a lucrative contract indicates that the Parisian outfit will listen to offers for him in the summer.
Real Madrid are not known for reuniting with former players. Once players depart Los Blancos, their chapter at the club is regarded to be over. Besides a potential feel-good story of Ramos’ return to Real Madrid, Navas and di Maria have virtually no chances of plotting a move back to Spain.
PSG have a younger backup keeper in Andriy Lunin and Thibaut Courtois has been proving his worth in goal consistently. Although Real Madrid could make use of a left-footed attacker, Di Maria left the club on bad terms and isn’t the ideal age profile either.
