Paris Saint Germain – who are destined to lose Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid this summer – are eyeing a mega-money move for AC Milan star Rafael Leao. However, the Rossoneri are keen to tie down the attacker for the long term.
A dejected Mbappe looked on as Real Madrid players celebrated qualifying for the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals under difficult circumstances – that the Frenchman could soon be a part of the very same group, is the prevailing theory. PSG are destined to lose the World Cup winner to Real Madrid this summer for free, after turning down a bumper offer the summer before from Los Blancos.
However, an equally rapid and equally exciting player could arrive in Paris to take Mbappe’s place; the club – as reported by La Gazzetta Dello Sport – is interested in signing AC Milan attacker Rafael Leao.
The 24-year-old former Sporting Club, former Lille player is enjoying his best campaign, to date, in Milan. The Portuguese has scored 11 goals for the Rossoneri across all competitions this season, surpassing his best-ever tally of eight in a season and with still a third of the season to be played. Milan think of the youngster as a key cog in their well-oiled machine and are hoping to extend his contract to ward off suitors before long.
As per Nicolo Schira, an agreement is close to being struck between Milan and Leao, enabling the player to earn 4.5 million euros a season while allowing the club to hold onto him until 2026.
PSG, in the meantime, are reportedly preparing a 70-million offer for the player, which Milan intend to reject immediately. What helps the Milan cause is the fact that the Portugal international himself isn’t keen to switch sides at the moment.
Leao is understood to be the next in line to renew his contract with AC Milan after the club prolonged Theo Hernandez’s deal recently. However, the Rossoneri are bound to lose midfielder Franck Kessie and defender Alessio Romagnoli for free in the summer, with the former moving to Barcelona while the latter closing in on a transfer to Lazio.
