One of the major reasons Bengal Warriors were able to put up a better show against Dabang Delhi KC (39-39) in what was a rematch of the Pro Kabaddi League season 7 final was the performance of their defence.
The Warriors defence arguably had their best game of the tournament as all of their defenders got at least one point in the match.
Bengal Warriors’ defenders vs Dabang Delhi
Name | Tackle points |
Amit Nirmal | 3 |
Ran Singh | 3 |
Vishal Mane | 2 |
Abozar Mighani | 2 |
Rohit | 1 |
This was an important game for the defending champions as they are trying to be in contention for a playoff spot.
Till the game against DDKC, it was Bengal’s captain Maninder Singh who carried his team through. He has till now scored 231 raid points and is second on the list of top raiders for this season.
He hasn’t gotten the kind of support from his teammates as he would have liked for most of the season. That is why the performance of the defence against Dabang Delhi must make the captain happy.
The Warriors have scored only 139 tackle points this season and are 10th on the list. So this performance should give confidence to the Warriors team going ahead in the tournament.
“We had discussions with the defenders and discussed how Delhi’s raiders play. We discussed which raiders try to disrupt the defence and which raiders try for a bonus. We made a clear plan.
Defenders had themselves thought about which angles they would want to play. The rest we got for 2-3 days, helped us make our plans better.”
head coach BC Ramesh said in an interaction with the media, as per Sportskeeda.
On being asked about his team’s chances for the playoff stage, he stated:
“We will try to win our remaining matches. We will play with our mind, skill and planning and try to win every game.”
