The Vivo Pro Kabaddi League season 8 action continued on Thursday as Dabang Delhi took on Bengal Warriors in a rematch of the last season’s finale in the first game of the night. The game saw a thrilling contest as it ended in a draw, with both teams scoring 39 points each.
The Warriors were ahead in the game for the most part of it. Yet again, they were led by Maninder Singh, who scored a total of 16 raid points. Bengal’s defence also showed their ability as each of their defenders got at least one tackle point.
As the Warriors were leading going into the last minute of the game, the Delhi outfit had the chance to inflict an all-out on Bengal Warriors to take the lead, but an error by the experienced Manjeet Chillar meant that Bengal saved itself from an all out.
That error meant that the effort of Naveen Kumar, who scored 16 raid points for Dabang Delhi, went in vain as the side failed to secure a win.
This tied result means Delhi are in second place in the table with 60 points to their name from 18 games while the Bengal Warriors are at the ninth position. They have already played 19 games, and thus they have made it difficult for themselves to qualify for the playoffs.
Both Patna Pirates and Puneri Paltan were coming into the game with four wins in their last four games. So, the contest was expected to be a close one. It also started off intensely in the first few minutes of the game, but eventually, the Pirates won by a comfortable margin of 43-26.
The Paltan took a four-point lead in the initial few minutes of the game, but the Pirates made a good comeback to reduce the gap. In fact, at the end of the first half, it was the Pirates who led by 18-17.
In the second half, the Pirates gave two all out to Paltan, from which Anup Kumar’s side just couldn’t recover.
Guman Singh scored 13 raid points for the Pirates, while substitute Shubham Shinde got four tackle points. For Puneri Paltan, Aslam Imandar scored nine raid points.
But all his raid points came in the first half as he couldn’t manage a single point in the second half of the game. No one else had a good game for Paltan.
This win has ensured Patna Pirates a place in the playoffs as they become the first side to do so in the season.
