Patna Pirates won against U Mumba in the last match, and that win propelled them to consolidate their number one position on the Pro Kabaddi League season 8 points table.
The stars for them on the night were Sachin and Guman Singh. The former is young, but he is now an experienced raider as far as the Pro Kabaddi League is concerned. The 23-year-old has played for Gujarat Giants in the past and has done well for them too.
Guman, on the other hand, is finding his feet in the league. One of the major reasons for the team’s bright performance this season has been the success of their team overall.
The defence and the offence both have played well in unison. All of the Pirates main defenders have gotten at least one High 5. The same is the case with their raiding deparment. Almost all the raiders who have gotten the opportunity to play have done well for them.
Sachin has been the highest scorer for them this season, with 125 raid points from 17 games. He is followed by captain PK Rai, who has scored 86 raid points from 17 fixtures. Monu Goyat too has contributed his share of points as he too got 66 raid points in the 11 games he has featured in.
Guman Singh, who has replaced Monu in the starting 7, has also scored three Super 10s in the last few games. He has a total of 57 raid points from 14 encounters. Interestingly, he only came in as a substitute in earlier games of the season.
It’s this combined performance of Patna Pirates raiders that they have enjoyed a fruitful season till now. Unlike the previous campaigns, the side are not over-dependent on one raider.
Ram Mehar Singh, the Pirates coach, acknowledges that as well.
“All raiders have good coordination amongst themselves. All of them have different skillsets for different situations.
If one can’t get the point, the second one will, if the second raider can’t, the third will, if he can’t, the fourth raider steps up. So that’s how we play,”
said Singh, as per Sportskeeda.
