Deandra Dottin hammered 19 runs in the Super Over to help the West Indies Women clinch the second ODI against South Africa at Johannesburg.
South Africa and West Indies Women engaged in a thrilling tie at Johannesburg in the second ODI on January 31, where the visitors had the last laugh. In a rain-affected contest, WI emerged victorious by eight runs in a Super Over to take 1-0 lead in the four-match series.
Deandra Dottin’s unbeaten 150* in the first game was ruined by rain, but her 19 off five balls in the Super Over secured the second ODI for the visitors. She also scored 37 off 31 balls in the regular innings in what turned out to be a dramatic chase.
West Indies won the toss and decided to field first. In a match that was curtailed to 41 overs per side, the hosts got off to a good start with a 53-run opening stand. The South African skipper Sune Luus, batting at no. 4, top-scored with 46 off 52. They were bowled out for 160, with all five bowlers from West Indies taking two wickets each.
In response, Windies were reduced to 49/4 despite Dottin’s 31-ball 37. Chedean Nation (35) and Chinelle Henry (26) added 54 runs for the seventh wicket to take the team closer to the target.
Ayabonga Khaka then struck on two consecutive deliveries to complete her five-for and push the visitors in the corner. Eventually, they were bowled out for 160, pushing the match into extra time.
